Green Homes

While today’s cities are turning into a concrete jungle, we long for a breath of fresh air! Well, if we want to add a hint of green to our homes, there’s nothing stopping us! Green homes are the latest fad among social circles and is gaining popularity among masses.
A green home is essentially a home constructed in the most environmentally friendly way. This means that brick and mortar is passe and natural materials such as wood, bamboo and rock are in. The floor can be made of something as simple as mud! Ventilation is key in these homes and fuel consumption is kept under check. Solar cell batteries for electricity and rain water harvesting techniques are used for water consumption.
If all this is a bit too much for you to fathom, don’t sweat! There are various small ways in which you can make your present home a green haven. Here are some tips:

  • Get your house cleaned every spring if possible, even if you have to call a cleaning company Kingston!
  • Use potted plants at strategic locations such as corners, passages, verandas and even bedrooms.
  • Keep your home clutter free. No extra furniture, clothes or electronics should crowd your personal space. This will help keep you stress free as well.
  • If you have a lawn or even a small balcony, create a bird bath and keep it filled with water. You’ll love the birds chirping happily on a hot day and the water will add a cooling effect.
  • Make sure your walls aren’t painted in jarring bold colors. Keep it simple with pastel shades of green, blue or peach, or get innovative wallpapers with wildlife or forest pictures to adorn your walls.

So go ahead and live it up with your green home!
